At Westbridge Academy, children are assessed regularly so that we know what to teach them next.
Both formative and summative assessments are used in order to provide teachers with comprehensive information about their children. Formative assessment is used to monitor and respond to children’s performance during real-time learning. Types of formative assessment include live marking, pupil conferencing and independent work, which allows teachers to modify learning to individual needs. Summative assessment evaluates a child’s long-term knowledge retention as children complete a test paper or moderation. As formative assessment is applied by teachers in their daily practice and by strategically planning summative assessment points throughout the school year, teachers are able to provide children with timely feedback ensuring they are prepared for future challenges, academic success and personal growth.
